Metlika: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Kolpa borders the municipality of Metlika to the south and is a border river. The old town of Metlika has medieval roots and preserves its characteristic appearance.

Nature and Water

A 17-metre-high observation tower stands on Krašnji Vrh. Krašnji Vrh can be reached by private vehicles; buses can only travel as far as Radovica.

The 233-metre-high Veselica is a wine-growing and panoramic hill above Metlika. Veselica is also a popular viewpoint among locals and day-trippers.

The Kolpa offers opportunities for rafting in the Metlika area. The shallow section of the river allows canoeing, stand-up paddling, bathing and swimming.

There are several organised campsites along the shallow section of the Kolpa in the municipality of Metlika. The waters managed by the Metlika Fishing Club are open to both local and foreign guests.

Culture and History

The Belokranjski Museum Metlika maintains permanent exhibitions, including “Bela krajina v odsevu sedmih tisočletij” and “Ljubiteljev zaklad”.

The Slovenian Firefighting Museum dr. Branka Božiča in Metlika presents the historical development of firefighting from its beginnings to the present day. Historical firefighting objects include old fire engines and equipment, helmets, uniforms, awards and models.

Tri fare is an important monument of Bela krajina and a pilgrimage centre.

Every Easter Monday, a crowd gathers in Metlika’s square to watch a folk dance group perform the Wheel Dance.

Trails and Events

The Urbanova Trail begins in Metlika and leads through vineyards, past vineyard cottages, forests and fields to the highest point of the route.

The Metliška pustolovščina is an approximately two-hour circular exploration of Metlika’s old town, with a map, equipment and various tasks. The backpack is collected from and returned to the House of Delicacies of Bela krajina.

The Traditional Krašnji Vrh Hiking Day is organised every year on 1 May and on the second Saturday in February.

Culinary Delights

Belokranjska pogača is a food product bearing the designation “guaranteed traditional speciality”.

The Belokranjska pogača baking workshop includes a tasting of traditional wines from Bela krajina and seasonal regional dishes.
