The Urban Municipality of Koper stretches from the coastal plain at the mouth of the Rižana River across hilly terrain and the Kraški rob to Slavnik, its highest point at 1,028 metres above sea level.

Culture and History
Koper's old town is a valuable urban monument of the wider Mediterranean region due to its distinctive structure and architecture. The Praetorian Palace was built in the 13th century and remodelled in the mid-15th century with elements of Late Gothic, Renaissance and Venetian Gothic styles. Today, it houses Koper's Tourist Information Centre.
The Koper Regional Museum in Belgramoni Tacco Palace presents archaeological collections as well as collections on art and cultural history and recent history. Koper's City Tower houses Slovenia's oldest bell, cast in Venice in 1333. The 54-metre-high tower offers views over the city and its surroundings.
The Gothic Church of the Holy Trinity in Hrastovlje dates from the 15th century and contains medieval frescoes, including the “Dance of Death”. It is surrounded by a defensive wall built in the 16th century with two towers. Socerb Castle stands on a rocky cliff more than 350 metres high and offers panoramic views of the Gulf of Trieste and the Gulf of Koper.
Landscape and Trails
The Kraški rob climbing area offers numerous climbing areas with routes of varying difficulty. A circular trail runs along the edge of the brackish-water area of the Škocjanski Zatok Nature Reserve.
The Parenzana is a 123-kilometre cycling and hiking trail that follows a former narrow-gauge railway from Trieste through Slovenia to Poreč. It runs from Škofije via Dekani and Koper towards Izola and Portorož.
Experiences
The Giants of Istria experience starts at Jakomin Farm in Kubed. The route is approximately 4,500 metres long, has an elevation gain of 190 metres and takes around three hours. Most of the circular route follows the mountain trail to Lačna.
At Žusterna Beach in Koper, visitors can swim, ride pedal boats, kayak, sail and dive.
Food and Drink
The Wine Fountain in Marezige is Slovenia's first wine fountain. Visitors can sample wines from Vinakoper and local winemakers from Marezige there; local Istrian delicacies are also available. Olive oil from producers in Koper can be sampled and purchased directly from the producers.
