Dravograd: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Lake Dravograd is an artificial reservoir that has developed into a wetland with islands and reed beds. More than 150 species of waterbirds find shelter and breeding grounds here. At the same time, the lake is an important spawning ground for fish and a habitat for amphibians, reptiles, aquatic molluscs and aquatic insects. As an ornithological reserve, it is part of the European Natura 2000 network.

Nature

The natural area includes the Košenjak–Velka region, which is protected as Košenjak–Velka Landscape Park. In the past century, a deposit of magnesium tourmaline dravite was discovered in Dobrova near Dravograd.

Eberwein Castle, a fortress, is located in the vicinity of the municipality of Dravograd. Kronska Gora is a mountain in the immediate vicinity of the municipality of Dravograd. Hühnerkogel, Jesenkov Vrh and Gortinski Vrh are mountains in the area around the municipality of Dravograd. St. Leonhard is a monastery in the vicinity of the municipality of Dravograd. Rabenstein is a ruin in the wider regional surroundings of the municipality of Dravograd, as is St. Joseph's Monastery.

Paths and Routes

The Dravograd–Grad forest educational trail is a marked circular route approximately 2 kilometres long, takes about two hours and includes 15 themed stations. The Boberček Trail is an educational and experience-oriented path in Dravograd.

Pot za srce is a 5-kilometre circular route around the centre of Dravograd that starts and ends at the health centre. It is marked with coloured signposts and information boards.

The Drava Cycle Route passes through Dravograd from the Vič border crossing through the town and via Bukovje towards Trbonje. Štrekna is a 35-kilometre-long, fully paved cycle path separated from other traffic between Velenje and Dravograd. At the raft harbour near Trbonje, the Koroški splavarji entertainingly introduce visitors to the former economic importance of rafting in the Drava region.

Culture and History

The Gestapo Prison Museum in Dravograd displays five prison cells with the final messages of prisoners before their execution, reports from survivors, and a memorial room dedicated to events in the Dravograd region during the Second World War.

The Church of St. Peter on Kronska Gora has two bell towers. The Church of the Holy Spirit below Ojstrica dates from the early 17th century and has Slovenia's largest surviving painted wooden ceiling area.

In Libeliče, visitors can see the Carinthian Plebiscite Museum, a black kitchen and a former school classroom. The Fishing Hall on Lake Dravograd houses a natural history collection on the ecosystems of the Drava, Meža and Mislinja rivers. The Pukštajn castle ruins on the former Bukovje noble estate house a permanent exhibition on the 1991 Slovenian War of Independence and a learning centre with a biodynamic garden.
