Holiday apartment in Veľké Blahovo – Nature, Water and Baroque Culture
Veľké Blahovo combines traces of former Danube side arms with protected waterscapes and the Baroque history of the village. In Veľké Blahovo, those interested in nature and culture encounter waterways, protected areas and sacred buildings of various kinds. A Baroque church, the Malý Dunaj Water Trail and railway line 131 give the village different facets spanning nature, culture and transport. Its connections with water range from visible remnants of former river channels and the nature reserve to the educational trail and breeding sites for waterbirds, while the church and wayside chapel provide additional historical reference points.
Former Danube Side Arms, Nature Reserve and Protected Waterscapes
Remnants of former Danube side arms are still visible in Veľké Blahovo and its cadastral area. Following their course leads to the present-day Danube. The Klátovské rameno National Nature Reserve also extends into the cadastral area. It is a representative example of a meandering lowland river with rare aquatic and wetland communities. The reserve covers a total of 306.44 ha; protection levels four and five apply there.
The protected area of Plytčiny is also located in the cadastral area of Veľké Blahovo. The Klátovské rameno area is home to alluvial forests as well as communities of floating or submerged aquatic plants. Protected bird species found there include the kingfisher, mute swan and little grebe. For nature enthusiasts, alluvial forests, aquatic plants and protected bird species are therefore just as much a part of Klátovské rameno as the meandering river.
Malý Dunaj Water Trail and the Small Hydroelectric Power Plant
The Malý Dunaj Water Trail includes the Veľké Blahovo Small Hydroelectric Power Plant as one of its stations. At the plant site, the standing water and the nearby mouth of the Čierna voda provide breeding sites for waterbirds. The station thus combines a technical point of interest with a section of waterway where waterbirds breed.
Railway Station, Line 131 and Regional Connections
Veľké Blahovo has had a railway station since 1895. Railway line 131 between Bratislava and Dunajská Streda runs through the village. Veľké Blahovo is also connected to the district town of Dunajská Streda and the surrounding municipalities by bus and train services. These transport connections therefore extend from the village railway station via the line to the regional network.
