Holiday apartment in Rohovce: Manor House, Park and St. Andrew's Church

Rohovce combines a Renaissance Manor House, an extensive historic park and a Romanesque church with numerous memorials in the village. The Manor House was built in 1570. The historic park, which the locals call Bažantia záhrada, covers 12.81 hectares and surrounds the Manor House.

Culture and history

The Manor House is also associated with an event from 1521: at that time, the owner hosted King Louis II and his wife Maria of Habsburg for a large Lenten meal at which various Danube fish were served.

The church dedicated to Saint Andrew was built in the mid-13th century in the Romanesque style. Following its Gothic reconstruction in the 15th century, it retained its single-nave layout and western tower. The tower acquired its present Baroque appearance in the 18th century. Inside there is a Romanesque baptismal font.

Rohovce Cemetery is located directly next to St. Andrew's Church. The oldest surviving gravestones there date from the 19th century; the cemetery also contains the graves of members of the count's family.

Nature

The historic park was designated a protected area with the fourth level of protection in 1982. A dendrological survey from 2006 documented more than 3,000 trees and 32 tree species there.

Memorial sites

Several monuments and religious representations preserve personal and local history. The statue of Saint John of Nepomuk originally stood beside a fountain in the part of the former count's estate known as Pajtás-kert. During renovation work on the Manor House, it was moved to its present location in 2000.

The sandstone group of Saint Anne depicts the Virgin Mary, her mother, Saint Anne, and the infant Jesus. The statue of Saint Anne was erected in 1885 by László Lengyel in memory of his deceased children. Another statue of the Virgin Mary stands beside the rear entrance to the cemetery and dates from before 1837.

In the centre of Rohovce, a cross commemorates the brother of Viktor Nagy, who drowned in the Danube. The original cross bore the year 1929. The depiction of the suffering Christ and the metal plaque bearing the inscription INRI are original components of the cross.

The monument to the Holy Trinity was erected in 1944 by Jolán Nagy in memory of her deceased husband, Gyula Varga. It was extensively restored in 2016. During this work, it was repainted, the images were renewed and a wrought-iron fence was installed.

The wooden school monument was created in 2002 to mark the 110th anniversary of the school's foundation. The Millennium monument commemorates the 1,100th anniversary of the arrival of the Magyars in the Carpathian Basin.

Pálfiovský kaštieľ, a castle, is located in the vicinity of Rohovce. Ostrov, an island, is also nearby. Svätý Anton, a monastery, is located in the surrounding area.
