Lehnice: Discover Manor Houses, Church Art and Nature

The new manor house of the Benyovszky family was completed in 1930 and built in a romantic pseudo-Gothic style modelled on English and Scottish manor houses. Lehnice is located in the Podunajská nížina, in the central part of Žitný ostrov. This brings together in one place a clearly dated architectural history, a distinctive architectural form and a particular landscape setting.

Manor House and Church Art

Of the older manor house of the Benyovszky family, the eastern part with an octagonal tower and the remains of the adjoining wings at ground-floor level have been preserved. The surviving building fabric thus differs significantly from the new manor house completed in 1930. A statue of Saint Elizabeth of Hungary stands on the church’s decorative marble altar. An older stone relief is set into the church sanctuary’s outer boundary wall. The newer Catholic parish church in Veľký-Lég was built in 1679 on the site of a Gothic church. The building form, preserved parts of the buildings and sacred furnishings thus provide several distinct points of cultural and historical interest.
