Kyselica: Holiday Apartment, Ferry and Cycle Paths along the Supply Canal

In Kyselica, visible traces range from the Church of Saint Rosalia to cycle and water routes along the supply canal of the Gabčíkovo hydroelectric power plant. A ferry connects two parts of the cadastral area, while SacraVelo, EuroVelo EC-6 and Danube Cycle Route 001a mark different lines along the water.

Culture and History

The Church of Saint Rosalia in Kyselica was built in 1898. It was erected as a gesture of thanks after the end of the plague in 1831 and is dedicated to Saint Rosalia of Palermo. Memorial plaques at the church commemorate the inhabitants of the municipality who fell in the First and Second World Wars. The plaques refer to the years 1914–1918 and 1939–1945 and were installed in 1993. Another memorial plaque commemorates the 800th anniversary of the first written mention of Kyselica and was installed in 2005.

At the entrance to the village stands the Vitus Cross, which was erected at the beginning of the 20th century. The Kyselica cultural centre was built in 1938 and formerly also served as a venue for the local amateur theatre. The church, memorial plaques, cross and cultural centre thus link different periods of the village’s history in a few identifiable locations.

Ferry and Waterways

The Vojka nad Dunajom–Kyselica ferry connects two parts of Kyselica’s cadastral area across the supply canal. It operates year-round at regular half-hour intervals. The supply canal of the Gabčíkovo hydroelectric power plant is used as a waterway of international importance.

The waterways also include the old Danube arm, where attractive rafting trips are available.

Cycle and Hiking Trails

The Báč–Kyselica section of the SacraVelo cycle route was built in 2020. SacraVelo runs from the ferry in Kyselica to the cycling centre in the centre of Báč. The international EuroVelo EC-6 (001) cycle route also runs along the left bank embankment of the supply canal of the Gabčíkovo hydroelectric power plant.

The opposite bank is followed by Danube Cycle Route 001a, which connects Čunovo with Gabčíkovo and runs along the right bank embankment of the supply canal of the Gabčíkovo hydroelectric power plant. The two embankments are therefore identified by different long-distance cycle routes, while SacraVelo describes the connection between Kyselica and Báč. As a result, three different route references meet at the supply canal: SacraVelo connects the ferry in Kyselica with Báč, EuroVelo EC-6 follows the left bank embankment, and Danube Cycle Route 001a follows the right. The routes can therefore be distinguished by their course and direction without confusing their respective names.

In Kyselica’s route network, Via Slovakia is listed as a tourist route between Bratislava and Komárno. Also listed is the Marian pilgrimage route M05-15 between Báč and Jurová. The two entries supplement the cycle-route connections with a tourist route and a Marian pilgrimage route, without extending their status beyond the listing itself.
