Holiday apartment in Hviezdoslavov: Village Square, Park and Žitný ostrov
Hviezdoslavov displays significant evidence of local history around its village square. The former buildings of the Pálffy estate are located at the western corner of Hviezdoslavov village square. In the park by the village square stands the monument to Pavol Országh Hviezdoslav, dating from 1971. It was created by the academic sculptor Tibor Baník and the academic architect R. Janák. In terms of landscape, the area is situated in the lowland of western Žitný ostrov, with its fertile black earth soils. In this way, the central settlement area is connected with a clearly defined landscape setting, without the individual historical references merging into one another.
Culture and History
Opposite the park by the village square stands a tall bell tower with an iron structure. Its bell was hung on 9 April 1934, while the bell tower was consecrated in September 2007. Another distinctive building is the “Jubilejná škola 1928”: the single-storey functionalist building with an L-shaped floor plan was constructed in 1928–1929. The information about the buildings’ form, use and period makes their different architectural characters visible without attributing a shared function to them.
The Pálffy estate also preserves several different architectural associations. The first Slovak school on Žitný ostrov was housed in the east wing. The estate’s single-storey buildings have a U-shaped floor plan and display features of agricultural buildings from the second half of the 19th century. In Podháj, the large Wiener-Welten stable is a distinctive local building. The Wiener-Welten stable was a cowshed with a milk room and an ice cellar next to the side entrance. As a result, the estate reveals the former school use, the agriculturally influenced building features and the stable’s special ancillary rooms as separate architectural associations.
Nature
Vodozádržný Park Hviezdoslavov is a green oasis in Hviezdoslavov. Its amenities include a fountain, landscaped areas, street furniture and a water-bound pedestrian path. The park is intended as a communal space for residents to meet, play and cool off, especially during periods of summer heat. Its description therefore encompasses both the visible elements of the grounds and the explicitly stated function in local community life.
Sports and Events
Športový areál Bez bariér is a public sports facility in Hviezdoslavov. It is located in the Pažiť area, in the immediate vicinity of the new primary school. The fourth edition of the “Beh okolo Hviezdoslavova” run was scheduled as a local event for 1 May 2026. The date thus stands as an independent item of temporal information alongside the described public facility and its local setting.
When choosing a holiday apartment in Hviezdoslavov, travellers can set their personal criteria independently of one another. These may include their preferred living style, how they plan to spend their days and their price range. The accommodation decision therefore remains open and individual; it is not predetermined by any single building, the park, the sports facility or the landscape.
