Culture and history
The Church of St. Matthew in Trenčianska Teplá is a Baroque church built in 1733 on older foundations. It has a Baroque-Classical main altar dating from the late 18th century. In Podhradište, visible rampart remains of a hillfort associated with the Púchov culture have been preserved on a plateau.
The villages of Dobrá and Príles also preserve notable historical monuments. In Dobrá, the Roman Catholic Church of the Finding and Exaltation of the Cross, dating from 1900, stands on the site of an older Baroque church. The tower of the former church in Dobrá continues to serve as a bell tower; it contains a late Gothic bell dating from 1516. The bell tower is a masonry, Classical-style tower from the end of the 18th century with a pyramidal roof. It stands on a rise in the northeastern part of the municipality, is in good condition and continues to serve its purpose.
In Príles, a bell tower probably dating from the period of re-Catholicisation has been preserved, with a bell dated 1660. Today, only a very small part of the former manor house in Príles remains. Of the chapel formerly located in the manor house, only walls with a Gothic window survive in a structural remnant.
The Teplanský folk costume is characterised by colourful embroidery on the sleeves and apron, featuring geometric, floral and animal motifs such as peacocks, roosters and birds. The TEPLANKA folk ensemble resumed its regular rehearsals in spring 2022 and continues to participate in a large part of the cultural events in Trenčianska Teplá. TEPLANKA has presented programmes based on local songs and customs, including “Teplanská svadba”, “Drápanie peria” and “Dožinky”.
