The Slatinský kras nature trail runs from Krásna Ves via Bukovinská skala, Veľké lúky, Lažtek and Lupenice to a junction above Šípkov and onwards to Slatina nad Bebravou. Its route thus connects several named landscape features and passes through karst terrain without surface water or drinking water. Several points along the Slatinský kras nature trail offer views of the Strážovské vrchy mountains and the Upper Nitra Basin. Thus, in the natural area around Šípkov, forest and rock habitats are just as central as the significant breeding populations of certain birds of prey and owls found there.

Culture

The Hrádok is part of Šípkov’s cultural heritage. A stone tower with a footprint of 6 × 6 metres dominated the Hrádok in Šípkov. Hrádok Šípkov is one of the fortifications located on the summits of small hills. The Hrádok above Šípkov is a ruined castle from the 13th to 14th century.

Traditional folk architecture has also been preserved in Šípkov. This includes typical rural settlement forms known as “houses with height”. At the Lupenica sheepfold, a memorial commemorates 22 people who were executed in November 1944.

Another historical detail can be found in the Šípkov belfry: it contains an old Baroque bell from the workshop of the Trnava bell founder Ján Ernest Christelly. The Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross is a sight in Šípkov.

Hrádok Šípkov can be reached from Šípkov on foot via a forest path in approximately 5 to 10 minutes; the walk is easy.
