Discover Veľké Kozmálovce – holiday apartment between culture and water

Veľké Kozmálovce lies on the left bank of the Hron River and opens onto a completely flat landscape: the entire municipality, including its municipal territory, lies on a plain. A distinctive feature is the reservoir of the Vodná stavba Veľké Kozmálovce. It is 2 kilometres long and 300 metres wide, making it one of the clearly identifiable landmarks of the village.

Nature

In addition to its riverside location, the water facility shapes another part of the village landscape. The surroundings of the Vodná stavba Veľké Kozmálovce have been used for recreational purposes for several years and also offer opportunities for anglers. The site itself is used by athletes and sport anglers. Thus, both recreation and various forms of angling are central to the area’s established use by the water.

Culture

An important architectural monument is All Saints’ Church. It was rebuilt from the ground up and on a larger scale in the Baroque style in 1752. Inside is a life-size wall painting of Jesus and his disciples from 1981. A cross shines on the church tower and is visible from up to 5 kilometres away.

Smaller monuments also tell the story of the village. The statue of the Holy Trinity in the centre of Veľké Kozmálovce dates from 1937. It was commissioned by locals who went to America in search of work. The oldest cross in Veľké Kozmálovce stands in the southern part of the village, Dolný koniec, and was erected in 1854. All three crosses in the built-up area of Veľké Kozmálovce were reconstructed in 2008.

The reconstructed war memorial in Veľké Kozmálovce names those who fell in both world wars. It also commemorates seven unknown Soviet soldiers who died in the municipality during the movement of the front in the winter of 1944/1945.

The long-preserved kozmálovský traditional costume is also part of the local culture. The customs of Veľké Kozmálovce were revived at baptisms, engagements, weddings and Carnival celebrations.

Village Life

In the centre of Veľké Kozmálovce there is a public space for relaxation, leisure activities, and municipal, social and cultural events. The central recreational area includes a covered stage, a gazebo, an entrance arch, a playground and a covered market hall with a sales counter.

This means that spaces for everyday life and areas for community events stand alongside one another in the village centre. The elements mentioned range from the stage and playground to the market hall and describe the central recreational area in its complete configuration.

Activities

Cycling in Veľké Kozmálovce is also connected with a specific section. The Hájik recreational zone is located here along the Pohronská cyklomagistrála cycle route. The recreational zone planned along the Pohronská cyklomagistrála cycle route near Hájik is also intended to serve cyclists, tourists and visitors.
