Slatina lies at the foot of the western foothills of the Krupinská planina in the Štiavnica valley.

Nature

The area of Slatina lies within protection zones of the first, second and third degrees for natural mineral table waters. Travertine hills in Slatina belong to the area where Slatina-type mineral water emerges. Both references shape the natural history aspect of the village, without requiring any additional place names.

The mineral water is also linked to a historical study: in 1802, Dr Pavol Kitaibel examined the physical, chemical and medicinal properties of Slatina mineral water and determined a stable temperature of 14.4 °C.

Culture

The oldest surviving written mention of Slatina dates from 1245. In the document, the settlement is referred to as “villa Zalatna”. Thus, the written record of the place name reaches far back into the Middle Ages.

The Church of Saint John of Nepomuk is the most significant religious monument in Slatina and dates from 1650.

The events calendar also lists regular dates: the Hody cultural event takes place in Slatina every year in May. An Advent concert takes place every year in December.
