Nature

Geographically, Lok lies on the eastern slopes of the Pohronská pahorkatina hills and on the terraces of the Hron. The predominantly flat to hilly, deforested landscape consists of Tertiary deposits covered by loess and loess loam.

History

Lok was first mentioned in writing in 1286 under the name Luk. In 1388, on the orders of King Sigismund, the village became part of the estate of Levice Castle. After acquiring the large estate in 1867, Count Gustáv Schöller had a distillery, farm buildings and residential houses built in Lok.

The history of transport is also linked to a specific period. The Levice–Šurany railway line was built in 1913–1914 and received a railway station in Lok. Thus, alongside the written history and the development of the large estate, the village also has its own station on this railway line documented.

Culture

The Reformed Church in Lok was built in 1783. Its tower was added in 1844 and heightened in 1873. The Reformed Church is in good condition and continues to serve its purpose. Its construction history thus combines the original church building with two later alterations to the tower.

The Church of All Saints in Lok originated from an 18th-century chapel that was expanded into a church and restored in 1949. This church is also in good condition and continues to serve its purpose.
