Apartment in Jabloňovce – Husitský chrám, Varta and forest trails

Jabloňovce lies in the Štiavnické vrchy, in the basin of the Jablonianka stream. The village combines a hilly, partly forested landscape with a church complex dating from 1459, Mount Varta (Stráž), hand-carved cellars and a varied hiking route to Bátovce.

Landscape

The cadastral area of Jabloňovce lies at elevations between 247 and 574 metres. Its predominantly deforested, hilly terrain consists of tuffs, tuffites and andesites; only the higher-lying part is forested. As a result, open slopes and higher forested areas alternate within the municipality, without the geological character of the landscape receding into the background.

Mount Varta (Stráž) offers views of Jabloňovce and the more distant former royal free town of Pukanec. The hand-carved cellars on its western slope near Jabloňovce were probably created in the 18th or 19th century. They were used to store wine and fruit from the vineyards and orchards on the slope. Some of these cellars are still accessible.

Culture

The Husitský chrám in Jabloňovce dates from 1459. Its courtyard is surrounded by a defensive wall, also dating from 1459, with loopholes. In the courtyard stands a Tolerance lime tree dating from 1782, with a trunk circumference of just under 6 metres. A Tolerance bell tower, also dating from 1782, stands nearby.

Historical structural elements are also visible in the grounds of the Protestant church building: the shingles on the defensive wall and the stone entrance gate were renewed, preserving the authentic appearance. A memorial plaque in Jabloňovce commemorates the fact that Martin Kukučín wrote the novella Mišo there.

Trails and activities

In Jabloňovce in the Štiavnické vrchy, forest walks and mushroom picking are outdoor activities. The mushroom season is particularly pronounced in August and September. At Babkin Statok, visitors can go horseback riding and buy ceramic products. Walks around the farm and in the surrounding area are also possible there; Babkin Statok is also home to basset hounds, goats and cats.

A longer route through the surrounding area is the Jabloňovce–Bátovce hiking trail. It leads via Varta (Stráž), the tuff-like cellars, the Pečenická dolina valley, the Borovica viewpoint, the Bátovce reservoir and the Baroque bridge over the Sikenica. This connects a mountain, cellar complexes, a valley, a viewpoint, a reservoir and a structure along a single route.

Cuisine

Jabloňovský kotlík is a repeatedly held goulash-cooking competition. The 11th edition took place in 2023, and programme items were also planned for a 13th edition. These included a tasting and judging of kettle-cooked specialities, as well as venison goulash, beer, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages and Perky.
