Vyšná Rybnica can be understood through its clearly defined geographical references to nature and water, as well as through cycling and cultural heritage. The individual local references range from protected areas and rare moss communities to bodies of water, a cycle route, a church, and technical monuments.

Nature and Protected Areas

Several natural features come together in the cadastral area of Vyšná Rybnica. The Vihorlat Protected Landscape Area (CHKO Vihorlat) extends into the cadastral area of the village. The Vihorlat Natura 2000 site also encompasses the cadastral area of Vyšná Rybnica. Both references explicitly mention the village, but assign it to different categories of protected area.

The Machnatý vrch Nature Reserve is also located in the cadastral area. It covers 3.18 hectares and protects rare moss communities dominated by hoary whitlow-moss (Leucobryum glaucum). The natural feature combines the precise area with an equally precise description of the protected moss communities.

The natural references therefore represent different geographical and thematic levels. CHKO Vihorlat and Natura 2000 each encompass the cadastral area, while Machnatý vrch lies within this area as a separate nature reserve with a defined extent. The protected-area category, area figure, moss community, and seasonal counting context thus remain distinguishable from one another.

The natural features associated with the protected landscape area also include ponds near Vyšná Rybnica. They were included in the winter waterbird count in the Vihorlat Protected Landscape Area (CHKO Vihorlat). The connection with the count explicitly refers to the winter season and to waterbirds.

Water and Cycling

Lake Morské oko extends into the cadastral area of Vyšná Rybnica. It is an average of 25 metres deep. Another water-related feature mentioned is the VN Vyšná Rybnica fishing water, a 5-hectare body of water near Vyšná Rybnica. Thus, the focus for Morské oko is on its geographical extent and average depth, while VN Vyšná Rybnica is described as fishing water and by the size of its water surface.

The two water-related features therefore differ both in their names and in the way they are described. For Morské oko, the connection to the cadastral area and the average depth are decisive. VN Vyšná Rybnica, by contrast, is recorded as fishing water near Vyšná Rybnica and by the size of its water surface.

The Kaluža–Vyšná Rybnica cycle route runs through Vyšná Rybnica and continues to the local water reservoir. Its route thus connects Kaluža, the village of Vyšná Rybnica, and the subsequent destination at the water reservoir in one continuous route reference.

Culture and Technology

The Greek Catholic Church of Vyšná Rybnica is dedicated to the Nativity of the All-Holy Mother of God. A virtual tour is embedded on the page about the Greek Catholic Church of Vyšná Rybnica. The church’s dedication and its digital representation are therefore among the explicitly mentioned cultural features of the village.

A technical heritage site is the brick water mill in Vyšná Rybnica. It is listed as a national cultural monument under parcel no. 139 with ÚZPF number 10293/0. In addition, the Valcový mlyn a píla Vojtecha Hochmana still has incomplete but functional machinery. The Valcový mlyn a píla Vojtecha Hochmana is accessible by prior arrangement.

The church and the mill complex thus represent two different cultural features in the village. The church is described through its dedication and the embedded virtual tour. In the case of the brick water mill and the Valcový mlyn a píla Vojtecha Hochmana, the focus is instead on the technical heritage, monument status, preserved machinery, and access by prior arrangement.
