Vlkolínec has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1993 and is located in Okres Ružomberok. The remarkably well-preserved settlement comprises 45 buildings and traditional features of a Central European village. Vlkolínec is also located in Veľká Fatra National Park.

Culture
The Dom UNESCO Vlkolínec institution presents an exhibition about Father Horský as well as works by painters, photographers and folk artists. A red-marked trail leads from the saddle into the Vlkolínske lúky to Sidorovo; its summit features a viewing platform overlooking Vlkolínec.
The ruins of Likava are located in the immediate surroundings of Okres Ružomberok. Its accessible lower castle courtyard offers a partially restricted view of Likavka and Ružomberok. The restored Hunyady Tower houses a visitor exhibition on the history of the castle and historical torture instruments.
Orava Castle is located in the wider regional surroundings of Okres Ružomberok. The Liptov Museum preserves a representative collection of guild artefacts from four important craft centres in the Liptov region: Ružomberok, Nemecká (now Partizánska Ľupča), Liptovský Mikuláš and Hybe. The exhibition of sacred art includes an altar of the Coronation of the Virgin Mary, which was transferred from the church in Ludrová.
At the Múzeum ručnej výroby papiera in Ludrová, visitors can learn about traditional paper production and make paper themselves. The museum displays a Hollander beater, a wooden vat, a press, moulds and a drying device for paper production.
Nature
The Brankovský Waterfall is a protected waterfall 55 metres high within a 27.71-hectare national nature monument. The Jánošíkova kolkáreň National Nature Reserve protects old, near-natural maple, rowan and spruce forests on Malá Smrekovica.
Mount Sidorovo is located in the immediate surroundings of Okres Ružomberok. The mountains Tlstá Hora, Ostro and Predný Choč are located in the surroundings of Okres Ružomberok.
The Hrabovské vodopády consist of three waterfalls accessible via an adventure trail with bridges. The circular route to the Hrabovské vodopády is approximately 2.5 kilometres long and takes slightly less than an hour.
The Lúčanský Waterfall Nature Monument lies along the route from Lúčky to Veľký Choč.
Hiking
Liptovský hrad Castle stands on a rocky promontory above Kalameny in the Chočské vrchy at an altitude of around 1,000 metres. Three access routes lead to the castle, including a yellow-marked hiking trail from Kalameny and a blue-marked trail from Lúčky. The route from Kalameny to the castle is approximately 4 kilometres long from the bus stop and takes around one and a half hours with an ascent of about 400 metres.
Water and Wellness
The Gothal water world in Liptovská Osada includes a 25-metre swimming pool with six lanes as well as a relaxation pool with massage jets. The Besenova Thermal Park is located in the surroundings of Okres Ružomberok.
Aqua-Vital Park Lúčky is open year-round and includes thermal pools with mineral water, an adventure pool with various water attractions, a sauna world and a covered mineral-water pool.
Winter
The Malinô Brdo ski area offers 12 kilometres of downhill runs, including a longest run of just under 4 kilometres. There is a ski and snowboard school in Malinô Brdo.
