Culture and History

The evangelical church in Poltár dates from 1791. Its walls contain built-in architectural elements from the 15th century. The evangelical church in České Brezovo was consecrated by Bishop Samuel Zoch on 15 October 1922 and built according to a design by M.M. Harminc.

Katarínska Huta and Poltár are home to permanent glass art exhibitions associated with the region of Novohrad’s almost 600-year glassmaking history. In Poltár District, the pottery tradition in Hrnčiarske Zalužany is represented by the Šamotka cooperative and private craftsmen.
