Dubovac lies on the southern edge of a low sandy area that merges into the Danube floodplain. As a result, different landscape forms meet here: sand, floodplain and the Danube’s waterscape shape the character of the place. The surrounding area also includes Dubovački rit. It covers around 130 hectares and lies between Dubovac, the edge of the Deliblatska peščara and the high bank of the Danube.

An important cultural landmark is the Church of Saint Nicholas. Its throne icons were created by unknown 18th-century icon painters. The oldest church register dates from 1794, and in 1844 the church was painted by Andreja Dikić. It stands on the site of an older church, which was destroyed in 1788 and restored in 1877. Dubovac was first mentioned in writing in 1323 and recorded as a fortified settlement of the Kovin County. Several archaeological themes can also be distinguished around Dubovac. The Staro Selo–Kudeljište archaeological site near Dubovac gave its name to the Bronze Age Dubovac-Žuto Brdo group. Finds from the Eneolithic, the Middle and Late Bronze Age, and the Early Iron Age have been identified at this site. During rescue excavations at the Košićev Breg site in 1986, a partly sunken house with a rectangular floor plan and handmade ceramic vessels were uncovered.
