Banja: Thermal Water, Trails and Monastic Culture

Banja combines thermal water, forested trails and Serbian monastic culture in a landscape shaped by the Lim Valley. Pribojska Banja lies in the picturesque valley of the Lim River between the local mountains of Lisja Stena and Ljeskovac. The settlement is also situated on a high river terrace a few kilometres above the town. At the monastery, Saint Sava founded one of the first six bishoprics of the autocephalous Serbian Church. The monastery complex includes three churches: the Church of Saint Nicholas, the Church of Saint Elias and the Church of the Ascension of the Holy Virgin.

The monastery treasury was discovered in this area in 1974. It is considered one of the best-preserved and most complete medieval treasuries in the Balkans. The last restoration of the Monastery of Saint Nicholas in Banja was completed in 1905.
