Vladičin Han – Bridge, Nature and Culture

Vladičin Han combines distinctive cultural monuments, protected nature and unique landscapes along the South Morava. The town lies on Corridor X and at the southern exit of the Grdelica Gorge. Culture between Bridge and Temple

One of the most prominent structures is the Iron Bridge. It was built in 1910 by Serbian, Austrian and Italian engineers and workers and connects the left and right banks of the South Morava. As a popular spot for holiday photographs, it provides a tangible reason to combine the history and riverside landscape of Vladičin Han.

In the town centre, in the area of Čučuljke, stands the Church of the Holy Prince Lazar and All Serbian Martyrs and New Martyrs. Its foundations were laid in 1997, and the church was consecrated in 2001. It was opened for worshippers and services in 2008. Protected Nature and Lakeside Landscapes

The strict nature reserve of Kukavica is located in the municipality of Vladičin Han on Mount Kukavica. It is protected as a reserve of national and exceptional importance in Category I. Particularly characteristic is an autochthonous, spontaneously developed beech forest community with beech trees around 140 years old. For nature enthusiasts, Kukavica is therefore a destination where the conservation value of the forest takes centre stage.

The Jovačka Lakes in the villages of Jovac and Ostrovica present a different type of landscape. This natural monument consists of a group of six landslide lakes and associated waterlogged areas. So far, 77 species of vascular plants have been recorded in the area. The Jovačka Lakes are promoted in the context of the municipality of Vladičin Han for ecotourism. This makes them particularly interesting for travellers who would like to include waterscapes, wetlands and botanical features in their travel plans.

Water, Sports and Local Events

The five-hectare “Kunjak” sports and leisure centre adds a sporting focus to the nature and cultural themes. The centre includes a 25 x 50-metre Olympic swimming pool with a large water slide. Families can keep this place in mind as a possible element of a more active day, without having to devote their entire stay to just one type of experience.

The “Vidovdanski dani” event also brings together different aspects of Vladičin Han. The main part takes place on 28 June. The programme includes events at the Centre for Cultural Activities, Tourism and Library Services, as well as outdoor events at the “Kunjak” sports centre. Depending on personal interests, culture, community events and sport can therefore all have a place in the same travel itinerary.
