One way to explore the surrounding area is the 3.5-kilometre cycling trail from Barlinek to Krzynka. It runs along the promenade by Lake Barlineckie and through Barlinecko-Gorzowski Landscape Park. For a different perspective, take the route to the lake viewpoint: there is a rest area with information boards and views of Lake Barlineckie, its opposite shore and Barlinek. Various waterbirds can be observed on the lake, including mallards, tufted ducks, common goldeneyes, coots, mute swans, great crested grebes, black-headed gulls and cormorants.
There are also different starting points for walks. The Barlinek Ceramic Trail, named after Romana Kaszczyc, is an urban walking trail. Along the route are works by local ceramic artists and by participants in the art plein-air events organised by the Barlinecki Ośrodek Kultury. The Nordic walking centre in Barlinek offers a total of 54 kilometres of marked trails on seven routes, with three levels of difficulty. Choose the level that suits your walk.
Exhibitions and traces of the town’s history
The Regional Museum in Barlinek (Muzeum Regionalne w Barlinku) is located in the so-called Gutenberg House, a former printing works at 17 Niepodległości Street. Its exhibitions offer different perspectives on history: an archaeological exhibition features tools and vessels dating from the Neolithic to the Iron Age. The ethnographic exhibition focuses on the daily life of rural people around the turn of the 20th century and includes household items, agricultural tools and workshop equipment. There is also a biographical exhibition about world chess champion Emanuel Lasker and his family.
Preserved fortifications in the townscape also recall the former town walls: of the original 1,800 metres, just over 400 metres remain today. A fountain erected in 1912 stands on Rynek Staromiejski. Its sculpture depicts a girl being attacked by a gander. An unusual architectural detail can be found at the Chiński House: its projecting bay window incorporates a scale model of the former Great Water Gate, reduced in size several times. The town’s public bath is also still well preserved.
