Żydowo: Lakes, Trails and History

Żydowo brings together a waterside landscape, industrial history and cultural heritage. The village district is home to the two large lakes, Kwiecko and Kamienne. Above the pumped-storage power plant, there is a viewpoint with panoramic views of the facility, Lake Kwiecko and the Radew Valley. There is also a yellow PTTK trail for hikers and cyclists, a listed half-timbered church and an early medieval barrow cemetery. Lakes, Views and Trails

Kwiecko and Kamienne are two large lakes in the Żydowo village district and are especially popular with tourists and anglers. The viewpoint is near the mouth of the connecting canal to the pipelines. From there, you can enjoy panoramic views of the power plant, Lake Kwiecko and the Radew Valley. The lakes and viewpoint offer different highlights: the area’s character is shaped both by its bodies of water and by views of the valley and the industrial facility.

The yellow PTTK “Łącznikowy Polanów – Żydowo” trail (No. ZP-1033-y, yellow with a black border) is 12 kilometres long and runs from Żydowo to Polanów. It is also suitable for cycling; much of the route follows a paved road. Its length and surface are useful points to consider when choosing between a hike and a bike ride. Another hiking trail, “Wzniesień Moreny Czołowej,” begins or ends in Żydowo.

Half-Timbering, Barrows and the Power Plant

The half-timbered Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary is a listed historic building. It was built in 1764. The church’s construction and date give it a clear cultural and historical significance.

The early medieval barrow cemetery in Żydowo represents a different historical period. It comprises 22 rectangular and round barrows made of stone and earth, which are preserved to varying degrees. Archaeologists date the cemetery to the 11th to 12th centuries. The church and barrow cemetery therefore illustrate two distinctly different historical contexts.

Industrial history is also part of Żydowo: the pumped-storage power plant was commissioned in 1971 and is listed among the village’s tourist attractions. The “Winniczek” educational site is also one of Żydowo’s tourist attractions. Together with the viewpoint, it adds an industrial highlight to exploring the area, alongside the lakes and historic sites.
