Zieleniewo’s history stretches from medieval ironworking to farmhouses and a barn dating from the 19th century. Together with the surviving rows of trees in a former manor park, these traces give the place a distinctive character. Ironworking and local industry

In the Middle Ages, Zieleniewo was considered an ironworking centre for Kołobrzeg. Bog iron ore was mined in the meadows along the Parsęta and smelted in bloomery furnaces. The recorded history links a local raw material with its processing. Bricks were also made in Zieleniewo from local clay. In addition, Pomeranian families owned estates here: the Bork and Schlieffen families held property in the village. Iron, bricks and land ownership are different aspects of the past that help make Zieleniewo’s history understandable beyond its individual buildings.

Farmhouses, barn and cemetery

Several buildings can be dated more precisely. The farmhouse at number 15 dates from the mid-19th century; another farmhouse, number 45, dates from the second half of the century. The barn at number 38 is dated to the first half of the 19th century. Thus, two farmhouses from different periods of the same century stand alongside an older barn as tangible examples of the historic built heritage. Their condition is not always good. Zieleniewo is also home to an Evangelical cemetery dating from the mid-19th century.

The former manor park

The former manor park on ul. Szczecińska was probably established towards the end of the 19th century. Rows of oak and lime trees have survived; the paths are barely discernible. This contrast defines the park’s description: the rows of trees remain, while the former layout of the paths is now only faintly visible. The dating is probable and should not be taken as an exact year of construction.

Coastal and nature experiences in the wider Kołobrzeg destination

The wider Kołobrzeg destination also offers distinct coastal and nature experiences. The Gmina Kołobrzeg includes dunes, peat bogs, pine forests, meadows, salt meadows and river valleys. More than 700 species of vascular plants have been recorded there, including many protected species. Sphagnum mosses and marsh vegetation grow in the raised bogs around Dźwirzyno and Grzybowo; insectivorous plants are also found there. These landscapes add a different focus to Zieleniewo’s historic character within the Kołobrzeg destination.

At Dźwirzyno beach, a wide, sandy coastal strip between the dunes and pine forest provides a setting for walks and relaxing in the shade. The harbour was formerly a fishing harbour and is now a fishing and tourism harbour; coastal sailing, fishing trips and sea excursions in small boats offer activities in their own right. In Grzybowo and Dźwirzyno, three Nordic walking routes of varying difficulty run along the beaches and through the coastal forest.
