Beach and Coastal Forest
Dźwirzyno Beach is a wide, sandy stretch of coast bordered by dunes and pine forest. It is suitable for walks and for relaxing in the shade. During the bathing season, there are lifeguarded sections of beach as well as food and drink stalls, changing rooms and toilets. Some access points have been adapted for pushchairs and people with limited mobility. If you are planning to bring a pushchair, this distinction is important: some access points have been adapted, not the entire beach as a matter of course.
The three Nordic walking routes in Dźwirzyno and Grzybowo vary in difficulty and run along the beaches and through the coastal forest. This offers several routes for exercise, each with different levels of challenge. The scenery changes between open beach and wooded sections; along their course, the paths connect these two coastal landscapes.
Bogs, Plants and Trails
The Gmina Kołobrzeg brings together a variety of landscapes: in addition to coastal dunes and pine forests, there are bogs, meadows, salt marshes and river valleys. More than 700 species of vascular plants have been recorded in the gmina, including many protected species. The raised bogs around Dźwirzyno and Grzybowo are characterized by peat mosses and marsh vegetation; insectivorous plants also grow there. This means that, alongside the beach, the region’s natural attractions also include wetland habitats and their distinctive plant life.
The 55 km-long Wokół Jeziora Resko route runs mostly through the Gmina Kołobrzeg and also passes into the neighboring Gmina Trzebiatów. If you want to cycle, you can rent a bicycle from the Gminne Centrum Sportu i Rekreacji in Dźwirzyno to explore the Gmina Kołobrzeg. The route and bicycle rental are two separate points of reference for planning your trip; no particular connection between them is implied.
Water and Historic Places
Jezioro Resko Przymorskie is suitable for water sports, including windsurfing and kitesurfing. A modern bridge over the canal between the lake and the sea is considered a landmark of Dźwirzyno. The harbor also has its own character: formerly a fishing harbor, it is now a fishing and tourist harbor. It is suitable for coastal sailing, fishing trips and sea excursions in small boats. The beach, lake and harbor thus offer different ways to enjoy a stay by the water.
Several clearly dated examples are part of the area’s architectural history. The hunting palace in Budzistowo was built in the eclectic style around the turn of the 20th century. The neo-Gothic church in Korzystno dates from 1866. It has a former churchyard cemetery, established in the same year and surrounded by a distinctive brick wall. The Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross in Karcino is also neo-Gothic and dates from 1869.
A smaller point of interest can be found on Grzybowo’s main street: the three-dimensional “GRZYBOWO” sign stands beside a fountain. It is a good place for a short break during a walk or bike ride. In this way, individual buildings and a distinctive public space complement the region’s nature and water-based experiences.
