Traces of the town’s history

In Goleniów stands Brama Wolińska, also known as Brama Chrobrego: a defensive gate built in the Gothic style in the 14th century, with six storeys and a height of 26 metres. The Centrum Informacji Turystycznej is located in the passageway. Visitors can find information there about tourist infrastructure, agritourism and tourism, places of interest in the town and region, as well as cycling routes and cultural and sporting events.

Significant sections of the medieval town walls have survived. The most interesting and best-preserved section is in the southwest of the old town, by the Ina. Also by the river is Goleniowska Aleja Legend, renovated in 2013. The riverside promenade features granite sculptures depicting local legends. Together with the defensive gate, these places offer different ways to explore the town’s history and stories.

Another distinctive building is the Spichlerz. This freestanding, three-storey building with a converted attic was built in 1749. It stands parallel to the Ina, about 12 metres from the riverbank. Those interested in more recent industrial history can also explore Twierdza Design: this historic industrial site originated as a railway water tower, which was renovated between 2019 and 2020; it is used by social organisations.

Woodlands and protected nature

The Wilcze Uroczysko nature reserve covers just under 63 hectares and extends across the municipalities of Goleniów and Stepnica. It protects a wetland and valuable riparian forests; the area also serves as a refuge for white-tailed eagles. Uroczysko Święta has a different conservation focus: established in 1973, this 9.5-hectare floristic reserve is located in the Goleniów Forest District and protects part of a deciduous forest stand. The two areas thus represent different aspects of nature: riparian forest and wetland in one, deciduous forest in the other.

Getting around on foot or by bike

The Miejski Szlak Turystyczny takes visitors in Goleniów past architectural monuments and places of interest. Its waymarkers are what are known as blue footprints. For a longer hike or bike ride, the green PTTK trail Szlak Borów Goleniowskich is another option. It is 17.1 kilometres long, well marked and particularly recommended for hikers and cyclists. It runs between Krzewno, Łęsko, Pucko and Kliniska Wielkie.

The green cycling routes also vary in length and course. The 45-kilometre route passes through Goleniów, Żdzary, Łaniego, Krępsko, Miękowo, Żółwią Błoć, Niewiadowo, Glewice, Stacja PKP Mosty, Burowo and Mosty. By contrast, a 13-kilometre sentimental cycling route runs through Borzysławiec, Lubczyna, Czarna Łąka, Pucice and Rurzyca. The Ina and Lubczyna

The Ina flows through both the municipality of Goleniów and the town of Goleniów. In Lubczyna, Przystań Jachtowa offers water-based tourism. Its three harbour basins can accommodate around 35 inland yachts and 15 seagoing yachts. The experiences described thus range from town walks and cycling routes to water-based tourism.
