Discover Ostaszewo: Cycling Routes, Landscapes and Village Culture

Ostaszewo is a rural village. It also offers glimpses of the landscape of the Grodziczno municipality and insights into village culture.

Explore the Pętla Ostaszewska by bike

The route is a loop, so you can choose which direction to ride. It connects Ostaszewo with Rynek, Lorki and Nowe Grodziczno before returning to Ostaszewo. At 8.5 kilometres, it can be planned as an activity in its own right; the green trail markers are another feature to follow. If you would like to include a bike ride in your trip, the Pętla offers a named circular route rather than one that ends somewhere else.

There is a rest shelter with benches and a table along the “Pętla Ostaszewska.” Information boards there explain local landforms. This makes a break an opportunity to learn about the surroundings of the Grodziczno municipality, too. Along the route, you can experience the landform created by the inland ice sheet during the Vistula glaciation; the hills of Ostaszewo are described as terminal moraines. The cycling route and the landscape theme are therefore among the specific features you can take into account when choosing your excursions.

Tourist bicycles are available to rent at the Centrum Turystyczne in Ostaszewo. Bicycle rental is therefore one of the local services that may be relevant when planning a bike ride. The Centrum has 30 beds for overnight stays and a fully equipped kitchenette. The grounds also have a children’s playground, a football pitch and a covered fire pit.

The lake and rural surroundings

Lake Hartowieckie is 2 kilometres from the Centrum Turystyczne. The lake has a large beach and a bathing area. Ostaszewo’s rural settlement also extends along Lake Hartowieckie. If you want the lake and the landscape to be important themes of your trip, these local features offer a concrete point of reference when choosing accommodation. The Centrum Turystyczne is also close to Welski Landscape Park.

Its location on Voivodeship Road 541 is another useful point of reference: the Centrum Turystyczne is on the road between Lubawa and Lidzbark Welski. Together with the loop route, the nearby lake and the landscape park, this gives you a picture of a place with several different attractions, without having to focus your stay on just one activity.

Village culture and history

The Ostaszewianki Women’s Association is part of Ostaszewo’s cultural life. Its aim is to preserve local traditions and promote village culture. The “Ostaszewianki” folk group was founded on 2 March 2008. It performs folk songs from regions across Poland at many local events and beyond. For travellers who appreciate local culture as well as cycling and landscapes, the group is another distinct aspect of the village.

Another local point of historical interest is a burial mound: one of the burial mounds is located on the site of a former, presumed cholera cemetery in Ostaszewo.
