Urowo: Hillfort and Cycling Routes

Urowo offers two distinct reasons to stay: an early medieval Prussian hillfort south of the village and three cycling routes that pass through Urowo. At the hillfort, the hill and lakeside setting help place it in context; on the routes, you can compare the listed distances and the order of the places. Hillfort south of the village

The early medieval Prussian hillfort lies 1 km south of Urowo, near the southern shore of Lake Kocioł. The site occupies the northern part of a long hill that runs in a NNW–SSE direction. The hillfort site therefore does not encompass the entire hill, but only its northern section. The southern shore, the location south of the village, and the hill’s orientation provide specific reference points for considering the landscape alongside the village’s historical significance. Three cycling routes with different sequences of places

All three routes start in Kaletka, pass through Sąpy and Urowo, and return to Kaletka via Urowo and Sąpy. Two routes are 25 km long, while the third is 32 km. Urowo is therefore included in all three route itineraries. The comparison is not just about distance, but also about which additional places are included on each route.

One of the 25 km routes continues from Urowo via Mózgowo and Karnity, then Mózgowo again, followed by Wielowieś, Boreczno, and Duba. The return journey then runs via Urowo and Sąpy to Kaletka. The repeated mention of Mózgowo is part of this route itinerary and distinguishes it from the other options.

The second 25 km route goes from Urowo via Duba, Gubławki, Wieprz, Karpowo, Śliwa, and Boreczno. Duba appears again later in the itinerary, before the route returns to Kaletka via Urowo and Sąpy. Although both shorter routes are the same length, the places listed differ considerably: this option includes Gubławki, Wieprz, and Karpowo, among others.

The 32 km route goes from Urowo via Boreczno and Śliwa to Janiki Wielkie, Jaśkowo, Wielowieś, and Mózgowo. It also returns to Kaletka via Urowo and Sąpy. It is 7 km longer than the 25 km routes and has its own sequence of places; the listed distance allows for comparison, but on its own says nothing about the time needed to ride it.
