The green Nordic walking Route No. 1 is about 6.4 km long. It starts and ends at the car park behind the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Włoszczowa. This circular route provides a specific starting point and a familiar trail for planning your day. Three Nordic walking routes were created and signposted in the Włoszczowa municipality in 2014; the approximately 6.4 km distance refers to Route No. 1.
The horse-riding trail follows a different route: it starts in Włoszczowa at the end of Wiejska Street, by a footbridge over the Czarna Struga, and ends at the forester’s lodge in Wola Świdzińska. Its stated start and end points clearly distinguish it from the Nordic walking route’s circular course. When planning your vacation activities, you can consider these different types of trails as separate options rather than combining them into a single tour.
Cycling routes through the forest surroundings
The cycling route “Lasami dookoła Włoszczowy” named after Bogusław Chowaniec runs through the surroundings of Włoszczowa, described as interesting and scenically beautiful, and passes mostly through forest areas. Its woodland character gives cycling here a different feel from visiting the historic sites in town.
A black-marked cycling route from Włoszczowa to Konieczno starts in Włoszczowa’s market square and connects with the cycling route “Lasami wokół Włoszczowy”. The market square is therefore not only a historic site, but also a named starting point for this cycling connection. The two similar-sounding route names differ in their spelling; the connection is to “Lasami wokół Włoszczowy”.
The market square, church and sacred art
Włoszczowa’s market square was laid out in 1539. That year, Hieronim Szafraniec received the founding charter from King Zygmunt I Stary, granting Włoszczowa town rights. The square is also home to a historic statue of Saint Florian. It was erected in the 19th century following a series of fires in the town. These two details tell different parts of the town’s history: the market square’s creation is linked to the founding charter, while the statue commemorates the fires.
Numerous commemorative plaques and epitaphs in the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary remember people, including a plaque in memory of Mikołaj Małachowski. Those interested in sacred art can also visit a museum of sacred art in the rectory of the WNMP parish. The rectory is a 19th-century building that has been renovated from the cellar to the attic. The museum opens by prior arrangement with its caretaker, Teresa Orlikowska; please take this arrangement into account when planning your visit.
Another historic point of interest is the Kopiec św. Jana. The mound is about 5 metres high and has a truncated-cone shape at the top; a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk stands on its summit. At its foot, archaeologists discovered the remains of a 16th-century bridge. The mound’s shape, statue and archaeological find make it a destination in its own right, alongside the market square and church.
A stay between the town and its surroundings
The KLEKOT body of water is another possible destination nearby. From Włoszczowa, it can be reached in the direction of Łachów via a signposted asphalt road. Together with the trails, it offers a choice of different places to explore: the circular route and horse-riding trail each have their own named endpoints, the cycling route starts at the market square, and KLEKOT lies outside town in the direction of Łachów.
