Tursko Wielkie-Zagumnie: Discover History and Nature

A battle fought in 1241, traces of changing ownership and a historic watermill give Tursko Wielkie its distinctive character. History from the Middle Ages to modern times

Tursko Wielkie is documented as far back as the Middle Ages. Records of ownership from later centuries also form part of the village’s history: in 1508 it belonged to Paweł Kołaczkowski, and in 1578 to Jan Turski and his descendants. For many centuries, Tursko Wielkie was also part of the Radziwiłł family estates. These records offer different points of entry into the village’s history across time, without reducing it to a single family or era.

On 13 February 1241, a battle took place near Tursko Wielkie between Polish knights under Kraków Voivode Włodzimierz Dunin and Mongol forces under Baidar. It ended in a severe defeat for the Polish side. The specific date and named commanders make this a distinct subject within the village’s history.
