Polichno: Cycling Route and Gliding History

The names also mark different historical connections: General Leon Barbecki is the namesake of the gliding school; General Stanisław Skalski is the subject of the panels at the primary school. This helps distinguish the school’s connection from that of the exhibition panels.

Memorial site in nearby Gościniec

In Gościniec, near Polichno, stands the Aviators’ Monument, erected in 1992. It commemorates the heyday of the gliding school and its instructors and students, Polish pilots who fought for the country’s independence in the Second World War. The memorial site is therefore in the vicinity of Polichno.

Every September, the Municipality and Town of Chęciny hold memorial ceremonies at the monument for aviators, instructors and graduates of the school who fought and fell in the Second World War.
