Airport and Getting There

Katowice International Airport is located in Pyrzowice. Its terminals are available to passengers around the clock. The “Pyrzowice Lotnisko” railway station is a useful landmark for travelling between the station and the terminal: it is about 500 metres from the passenger terminals and connected to them by a paved pedestrian path. Take this distance into account when planning your journeys between the station and the terminal.

Pyrzowice also has something to interest people with a particular enthusiasm for aviation. Katowice Airport is associated with two plane-spotting clubs and a large group of independent aviation enthusiasts.

Cycle Path and Protected Nature

The 65.1-kilometre Szlak Brynicy i Czarnej Przemszy cycle path passes, among other places, by Katowice Airport in Pyrzowice. The stated length refers to the cycle path as a whole. If you are planning a cycling trip, you can therefore regard Pyrzowice as one of the places along the route, without equating the entire route with a shorter stay.

Bagno Bruch is located in the vicinity of Pyrzowice. The area is designated as a Natura 2000 site and as a nature reserve or ecological protected area, and covers just over 102 hectares. It is accessible to walkers and cyclists. This means your stay can also be combined with an interest in protected nature, while the airport, local history and protected area offer different points of focus.

One notable botanical feature of Bagno Bruch is the presence of many thousands of round-leaved sundews. This plant offers a specific point of interest for discovering the natural area. Together with its protected status and size of just over 102 hectares, it presents a different picture of the surroundings from the airport and its infrastructure.

Chapels and Local History

The Chapel of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary (pw. Nawiedzenia NMP) in Pyrzowice dates from around the turn of the 20th century. It is a brick building with a square ground plan. Its architectural features include a four-sided turret and crowned corner pinnacles at the front corners. The chapel stands at the intersection of Wolności and Piłsudskiego streets. Before the church was built, May devotions were held here. The Church of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary (pw. Nawiedzenia NMP) was consecrated on 31 May 2008.

Another chapel is located at Katowice-Pyrzowice International Airport: the ecumenical chapel is on the second floor of the publicly accessible area of Terminal B and opened in April 2009. Masses for groups and pilgrims can also be held in the airport chapel. It thus connects the airport with a religious offering, while the chapel at the intersection of Wolności and Piłsudskiego illustrates Pyrzowice’s local history.

Choose the Right Focus

When looking for accommodation, you can first consider which of these themes you want to shape your trip: the airport and its connections, the history of the chapels, the cycle path or the nature of Bagno Bruch. This way, you can search for a holiday apartment in Pyrzowice based on your preferred focus for the trip, without combining the different experiences into a single itinerary.
