The Bramy Morawskiej Arboretum covers 150 hectares of hilly terrain characterised by mixed forest. Thanks to the nearby Moravian Gate, the region is rich in remarkable plants, animals and fungi; numerous living creatures have migrated through the gate and continue to do so. Two signposted and clearly marked nature trails offer different focuses: the dendrological trail explores woody plants, while the ecological trail explores relationships in nature. This lets you tailor your visit to a range of interests rather than stopping at just one point of interest.

The arboretum also includes a mini-zoo with around 100 animals and birds. Racibórz-Brzezie has a separate bison enclosure covering more than ten hectares, purpose-built for these animals. Both places add opportunities to encounter wildlife to the nature-focused attractions, though they offer distinct experiences.

The Łężczok Forest and Pond Reserve was established in 1957 to protect a biodiverse riparian forest and former Cistercian fishponds. Its fauna includes, among other things, 249 bird species, several hundred invertebrate species and 46 wild mammal species. Here, the focus is not just on individual animals, but also on the connections between forests, bodies of water and habitats.

The city itself also has green spaces with distinctive character. Roth Park, formerly known as Gondola Park, covers 5.46 hectares. One hectare of this area is taken up by a pond with an island and fountain; on Bema Street, a viewing terrace overlooks the pond. Castle Park covers 13.87 hectares, is legally protected and has been listed in the register of immovable monuments of the Silesian Voivodeship since 17 December 1997 under number A/1672/66/97.

Cultural History in Exhibitions and Buildings

The Muzeum in Racibórz presents permanent and temporary exhibitions in the former Dominican church at ul. Gimnazjalna 1. One of them, “W Domu Ozyrysa,” displays the mummy of the Egyptian woman Dżed-Amonet-Ius-Anch, a cartonnage fragment and two anthropoid sarcophagi. Ancient Egyptian exhibits are therefore also among the cultural attractions you can discover in Racibórz.

The chapel at the ducal castle in Racibórz-Ostróg was probably built in the 1280s. The bishop founded a collegiate church dedicated to Saint Thomas Becket at the castle chapel. To this day, the chapel is considered an outstanding work and a “pearl of Upper Silesian Gothic.” The malting house at the ducal castle also houses the interactive multimedia exhibition “Historia Górnego Śląska czasów Piastów i Przemyślidów,” considered one of the most modern of its kind in Poland.

Another historical theme is depicted in the mural “Panorama Raciborza,” which reproduces a panorama of Racibórz created by Friedrich Bernhard Werner in Nuremberg in the mid-18th century.
