Lubliniec: History, Routes and Water

Lubliniec combines a rich urban history with cycling and walking routes, ponds and activities for active days. In the historic centre, a square market and 19th-century houses tell the story of the town’s development. At the same time, marked routes run through Lubliniec and into the forests to the south; in Kokotek, numerous ponds shape a stay by the water. You can plan your trip around whether you are most interested in culture, exercise or water sports.

The Town’s History and Places of Remembrance

The historic centre grew out of the town’s medieval foundation under German law. It includes a square market, Plac Konrada Mańki, and streets lined largely with 19th-century houses. On a walk through the town, you will also encounter buildings with different histories: the wooden Church of St. Anne on ul. Św. Anny in the centre was built in 1653 and reconstructed between 1996 and 2004; its interior is Baroque. The present-day form of the Church of St. Nicholas, by contrast, reflects several phases of construction and renovation. An original Gothic building was followed by a Baroque one, which incorporated older walls.

Edith Stein is also associated with several places. The Muzeum Pro Memoria Edith Stein is located in a tenement house that once belonged to her grandparents, Adelajda and Salomon Courant. In Steblów, the parish church dedicated to Saint Teresa Benedicta of the Cross – Edith Stein – was raised to the status of a sanctuary in December 2021. The Jewish cemetery on ul. 11 Listopada bears witness to the two-hundred-year presence of the Jewish population in this Silesian town. These places add a range of religious and cultural testimony to the picture of the centre.

Cycling, Walking and Nature

There are two marked cycling routes, with different starting points and directions, for a bike ride. The blue Turystyczna No. 852 cycle route runs from the Lipie district through the centre of Lubliniec to Lubliniec-Wymyślacz. The yellow Turystyczna No. 439 cycle route starts at the market square and heads towards Steblów; at first, it runs north along al. Solidarności. Nordic Walking Route No. 4 runs through the forests south of Lubliniec, passing the Łopian forestry lodge. There are rest areas along the route, as well as information boards with preparation tips and Nordic walking exercises. In Kokotek, a district of Lubliniec, you can go hiking, cycling and horse riding in summer; cross-country skiing is possible there in winter. The ponds in Kokotek are suitable for spending time by the water and for water sports. If you prefer to get around in a watercraft, boats, pedal boats and kayaks are available at the Silesiana and Ustronie Leśne leisure centres.

Activities to Enjoy Together and Seasonal Offerings

The boules court at the sports and leisure centre in Lubliniec is free and open to the public. It can be used by individuals as well as organised groups. Another way to experience different surfaces first-hand is the renovated sensory trail next to a maze: it offers a barefoot walk over surfaces made of bark, pine cones and stones.
