Nature and landscape in the Municipality of Kłobuck

The Biała and Czarna Oksza rivers are among the municipality’s landscape features. Moraine hills and limestone uplands add to the varied terrain. In total, the municipality has eight legally protected areas, including five nature reserves and two ecological sites.

The Dębowa Góra Nature Reserve covers 5.45 hectares and lies on a hill that reaches up to 330 m above sea level. Pedunculate oaks and spruce grow there; protected plant and animal species include mezereon, periwinkle, lily of the valley, sand lizard, slowworm and adder. The reserve also has an observation tower. Cycling routes of different lengths

Kłobuck’s nature- and forest-themed cycling route system comprises two routes: one is 12.7 km long and the other 4.5 km. The shorter route starts in Dębowa Góra Nature Reserve and leads to the Zakrzew Reservoir. The 12.7 km route runs from a protected mezereon site in the Pierzchno Forest District via Zamczysko Reserve to the reservoir. Their different lengths and listed stops give you concrete options when planning your days around the routes that interest you.

Zakrzew Reservoir is an artificial body of water covering 10 hectares on the Biała Oksza, used for recreation in summer. The 67.5 km blue Nature Reserves Trail also passes through Zamczysko and Dębowa Góra reserves; Dębowa Góra lies within the town limits. Another marked cycling route, the Kłobuck–Przystajń cycle route, starts in Kłobuck and is classified as easy. The Green Kłobuck Trail starts at St. Martin’s Church and runs from Kłobuck via Mokrą and Zawady on the Liswarta to Wąsosz. The Szlak Opatówki starts at Zakrzew Reservoir and ends at the municipal office in Zawady.

Church, palace and local traditions

St. Martin’s Church in Kłobuck was built in 1144, funded by Piotr Dunin Włostowic of Skrzynno. Today, it has a Gothic design with Baroque elements. Five pointed Gothic portals have survived to this day in the Church of St. Martin and St. Margaret. The historic urban layout also dates back a long way, to the 12th–13th and 14th centuries. A palace built in the Neo-Gothic style between 1795 and 1800 stands in Kłobuck-Zagórze. Its floor plan is L-shaped, with a polygonal tower at the centre. Another historic building is the brick manor house in Kamyk, built by the Kołaczkowski family in 1840. The architectural styles and construction dates add distinctive elements alongside the town’s medieval history.

The Miejski Ośrodek Kultury, which has operated continuously since 1972, is part of local cultural life. The municipal harvest festival features processions and competitions involving harvest wreaths made from agricultural produce. Other customs preserved in the municipality include drowning the Marzanna effigy, decorating the Gaik on Gaik Sunday and carol singers visiting homes during the Christmas season. Kłobuck mixed bread is also part of the region’s culinary heritage: in 2010, it was added to the Silesian Voivodeship’s list of traditional products in the bakery and confectionery category.
