Rumia offers plenty of reasons to visit: protected landscapes along the Zagórska Struga, views from Góra Markowca, paths through parks and cultural history in exhibitions. Music events are also part of the programme. Nature along the Zagórska Struga
The Dolina Zagórskiej Strugi Nature Reserve includes areas in Rumia. In November 2025, the city reported the designation of the protected area. It protects the Struga, the trout living in it, and old beech and oak trees on the slopes. The watercourse, wildlife and forest are all part of what makes this place special.
From Kamienna Street near Szmelta, you can walk along the Zagórska Struga towards the forest. A hiking trail leads into the Zagórska Struga Valley. In the nature reserve, you may only walk on designated paths. This restriction is something to bear in mind when planning any walk there.
Views and paths around the city
Góra Markowca has an observation tower, a zip line, a playground and a climbing wall with routes of varying difficulty. From the observation tower, the view stretches across the city from more than 112 metres above sea level. This place brings together several kinds of activities: taking in the view, playing and climbing. The different difficulty levels refer to the climbing routes.
Starowiejski Park lies between Starowiejska and Mickiewicza Streets. Its distinctive attractions include the pond and a footpath and cycle path along the Zagórska Struga. The city park on Starowiejska Street has paved paths, benches, playgrounds, wooden gazebos, a footbridge and a landing stage for kayaks. There is also a footpath and cycle path along Żwirki-i-Wigury Street. Alongside the routes into the valley, the parks and streets offer their own reasons to go for walks and bike rides.
Cultural history and events
Rumia is home to the ruins of a medieval church, surrounded by a historic cemetery. The Muzeum Miasta Rumi, in the basement rooms of Stacja Kultura, brings together other historical topics: exhibits include the skeleton of the “oldest female resident of Rumia”, coins from the ruins of a Cistercian church, and documents and photographs depicting life in the post-war period.
The Muzeum Miasta Rumi can be visited free of charge year-round with a guided tour, provided you reserve a time in advance. Access to the history room is also free of charge and must be arranged separately by email. Planning ahead is therefore part of the museum experience.
Rumia’s recurring events calendar includes the Międzynarodowy Festiwal Muzyki Religijnej im. ks. St. Ormińskiego, held in October. The Letnie Koncerty Organowe take place in July and August. In the 2024 edition, one concert was held at the Sanktuarium Najświętszej Maryi Panny Wspomożenia Wiernych in Rumia.
