City History Between the Market Square and the Museum

The market square is the oldest part of Starogard Gdański and measures 107 × 107 metres. These precise dimensions make the square itself a distinctive point of reference when exploring the city's history. A reconstructed medieval well stands in its north-western corner. The oldest surviving church in the city is a three-aisled basilica, built around 1350 during the rule of the Teutonic Order. “Three-aisled” describes how the church interior is divided into three longitudinal sections and offers a specific insight into its architecture.

The former synagogue is also part of the historic cityscape: the surviving Neo-Gothic building was built in 1849 and is now used as a restaurant.
