Żarnowska: Moorland Boardwalk and Trails by Lake Łebsko

Żarnowska combines a Kashubian settlement with distinctive nature experiences: in the protected area, a boardwalk crosses the regenerating Wielkie Bagno peat bog, while trails through the forests and along Lake Łebsko offer further perspectives on the landscape. A boardwalk across Wielkie Bagno

The boardwalk in the Żarnowska protected area ends at a platform above the peat bog and is about 131 m long. The route itself is therefore clearly defined; it leads to a place where you can view the regenerating peat bog. If you like to take a closer look at the landscape on an outing, there is also an information board at the boardwalk with details about typical bog species.

The species named there include cranberry, sphagnum mosses, marsh rosemary, cross-leaved heath, hare’s-tail cottongrass and sundew. The board connects a visit to the peat bog with the names of specific plants that belong to this habitat. This means you can plan the outing not only as a walk to a viewing platform, but also as an opportunity to explore the bog’s distinctive plant life.

Woodland scenery along the southern trail

The yellow-marked southern trail offers a different perspective. It runs along the south side of Lake Łebsko and passes through woodland made up of pine, alder and birch. There are also artificially planted spruce stands on peat soil. The route therefore passes through different types of woodland; the spruce stands differ from the woodland mentioned above in that they were artificially planted and grow on peat soil.

Trails by Lake Łebsko

Near Żarnowska, access to Lake Łebsko is possible only along a designated route, to protect waterbirds’ nesting sites. This restriction is important when finding your way around the lake: plan your access along the designated route and respect the nesting sites. A field track runs along Lake Łebsko all the way to Łeba. This is separate from the path from Żarnowska to a small landing stage on the lake; the two descriptions refer to different destinations.

There is also a specific point of reference for arriving by bicycle: Cycle Route No. 3 reaches Żarnowska after three kilometres. Together with the field track along the lake and the path to the small landing stage, this gives you several different route options to consider when choosing activities.
