History at the Cemetery Gate
The cemetery gate and the “Brama do Raju” bell tower are reminders of the area’s history and its Olęder settlement. The bell tower stands in a cemetery that was once associated with a Gothic church; the church no longer survives. The cemetery gate led to a Mennonite cemetery. The site is now a parish cemetery, so its historical and current uses can be clearly distinguished.
The inscriptions on the gate’s four supporting posts are particularly striking. They are well preserved and carved. Among them are a record of the funding by the village head of Dziewięć Włók, references to the church wardens, and the name of the builder, Jakub Jentzen, along with the date 1792. The inscriptions therefore tell not only of the gate’s construction, but also name people and roles associated with the cemetery.
The Motława and the Flat Żuławy Landscape
The municipal kayaking route on the Motława passes through Wiślina and the flat, agricultural areas of the Żuławy Gdańskie. The route is considered easy because of the slow current and can be travelled in either direction. When planning a trip, you can therefore choose which direction you would prefer to paddle. The wider region also includes the recommended Motława tour from Gdańsk to Wróblewo. It is 15 km each way, or 30 km for the round trip. This tour is a separate option for a longer outing and should not be confused with the municipal kayaking route that passes through Wiślina.
