Schlochau: Lakes, Nature and Historic Places
Accommodation in Schlochau
Lakes, river landscapes and historic places give a trip to Schlochau a range of different focuses. In the municipality of Człuchów, distinctive bodies of water meet protected natural areas and churches with a long history. When choosing a holiday apartment, first consider what you would like to experience: time by the lake, a canoe trip or cultural discoveries.
Lakes and protected landscapes
Jezioro Gostudno in the municipality of Człuchów covers 46.38 hectares and is fed by the Czerwonka. On its eastern shore, there is a car park, a beach, a pier and a recreation area. The Polnica forest district is also located by the lake. This means that water and forest meet at this body of water, alongside dedicated recreational areas. Those who want to plan their holiday around time by the lake will find a different focus here than on a tour along a river.
Other lakes offer different natural features: Jezioro Bardze lies in the “Czerwona Woda nad Babilonem” Special Protection Area. At Jezioro Sporacz, the lake, surrounding peat bog and forest together form a nature reserve shaped by water and plant life. The “Sosny” forest nature reserve in Sieroczyn covers 1.55 hectares and protects valuable plant, fungal and animal species. These places focus on bodies of water, peat bog and forest landscapes, and the diversity of the species protected there.
Time by the water, sailing and river landscapes
Jezioro Krępsko has numerous spots suitable for recreation and is also a good place for fishing. There are three islands in the lake, the largest of which covers 4.13 hectares. Sailing is available on Jezioro Rychnowskie, and the VI KING sports club’s mooring is nearby. The “Rychnowy” recreation area by the lake covers just under 2 hectares. Those weighing up fishing, relaxing by the lake and sailing can use these different options to decide what they want to focus on during their holiday.
The Kamionka offers a different kind of experience in nature. It begins near Wierzchowo, on the border of the municipality of Człuchów, and meanders through fields, meadows, ravines and forests. The river is suitable for canoe trips. The municipality also offers opportunities for cycling and trekking. This makes it possible to focus a trip on being out on the water or getting active on land, without necessarily making the same type of landscape the main attraction.
Churches, a park and a remarkable erratic boulder
Cultural history also has some specific places to visit. The Church of the Holy Trinity in Polnica was built in 1780–1781 and is the oldest surviving church in the municipality of Człuchów. The branch church of St James the Apostle in Krępsk dates from 1737. Its Baroque interior features a pulpit from the castle chapel in Człuchów. Those interested in churches and historic interiors will find two different stories here: the municipality’s oldest surviving church and a Baroque interior with a specific named feature.
A landscape park dating from the mid-19th century lies beside the palace in Stołczno and is listed in the register of monuments maintained by Poland’s National Heritage Board. Another distinctive destination is the erratic boulder known locally as the “Romantic Stone”. The glacial boulder weighs 60 tonnes, has a circumference of 13 metres and is estimated to be more than 600 million years old. Its dimensions make it a very different point of interest from the churches and historic park.
Choose your destinations and holiday focus
For families, Canpol Wonderland in Człuchów is a specific place to visit: children’s birthday parties, team outings and stag parties can be organised there. The address is given as Sieroczyn 4A, 77-300 Człuchów; the E22 and E25 national roads are listed as access routes. Those who would rather focus on nature and activity can explore the lakes, the Kamionka, and the opportunities for cycling and trekking. For culture enthusiasts, the churches, park and erratic boulder offer other themes to explore. These differences can help you decide what to focus on during your trip and, in turn, where to find a suitable holiday apartment.
