Osinki: Hillfort on the Zamczysko Promontory

Osinki is shaped above all by the hillfort on the Zamczysko promontory. The site lies on its elevated section at the edge of the Kamionka stream valley. The landscape is therefore more than just a backdrop: its elevation and position at the edge of the valley are specific features of the place. A hillfort between promontory and valley

The interior of the hillfort is approximately oval. It measures about 18 m along the NW–SE axis and about 9 m along the NE–SW axis. Comparing the two directions conveys more than the description of its shape alone: along one axis, the interior is roughly twice as long as along the other, while remaining approximately oval. The measurements give you a concrete sense of the shape and size of this area.

Two curved lines of substantial ramparts are visible on the western, northern, and eastern sides. Additional barrier ramparts protect the interior to the west and east. The fortifications are thus arranged by side and are not described as a uniform ring. There are no ramparts to the south: a very steep, long slope descends there to the river valley. The contrast between the rampart lines and the steep slope makes the interplay between the constructed fortifications and the shape of the terrain a striking feature of the hillfort.

Names and hiking connections

Since the second half of the 19th century, the Osinki hillfort has been known by the names Białorogi, Lipniak, and Osinki. All three names refer to the same site. Together with Zamczysko, the name of the promontory, they provide precise orientation: Osinki names the place, while Zamczysko names the promontory on whose elevated section the hillfort stands. A municipal planning study from 2020 describes a black-marked hiking trail between Stary Folwark and Studzieniczne. The trail passes through Osinki and by Jez. Gałęziste.
