Kościuszko Monuments and Their Details
In the central square, Tadeusz Kościuszko sits on horseback atop a sandstone pedestal, his sabre raised. The reliefs beneath the horse’s hooves depict battles during the 1794 uprising. In this way, the monument combines the equestrian figure with a depiction of historical events.
Another monument, featuring a bust of Kościuszko, was unveiled in 1917 on ul. Królowej Jadwigi. It bears the inscription “W setną rocznicę skonu Tadeusza Kościuszki - Rodacy”. The wording refers to the centenary of his death and the dedication by his compatriots. Compared with the equestrian monument, the commemorative inscription and the year of unveiling are the focus here; at the central square, the figure and reliefs make the strongest impression.
St. Roch Parish Church
St. Roch Parish Church was built from 1908 to 1912 to a design by architect Józef Pius Dziekoński in the Gothic style. The construction dates and the style designation provide two different points of reference: the years place the building in the early 20th century, while “Gothic” identifies its architectural style. The architect who designed it is also relevant to understanding the church. Together with the Kościuszko monuments, it offers a different perspective on Długosiodło’s cultural history: here the focus is on a specific building and its design, while the monuments commemorate a historical figure.
