Maszewo Duże: Sport and Remembrance
Accommodation in Maszewo Duże
Maszewo Duże combines community sporting events with a place of remembrance: the Church of Saint Hedwig, Queen of Poland. Walking and cycling paths are additional distinctive features of the area. Activities range from extended summer programmes to individual sporting events.
Events with Different Durations
The 11th Maszewiada began on 24 June 2024 and continued throughout the summer holidays. As part of the 2025 Maszewiada, sports tournaments, games, and other activities took place from 30 June to 7 September. The 2025 edition had 250 participants, including 150 children. If you want to plan your trip around a specific event, check the dates for your chosen period.
Sport in Different Formats
An open badminton tournament was held in Maszewo Duże on 25 June 2024. On 22 December of the same year, there was a night-time climbing event with Korona Maszewa. In 2025, GOKiS Stara Biała organised climbing sessions on a climbing wall in Maszewo Duże. They were attended by 20 people, including 15 children. Fitness classes were also organised for residents of the municipality: three times a week in Maszewo Duże and just as often in Stare Proboszczewice. The proportion of children at the climbing sessions was higher than at the 2025 Maszewiada: 15 out of 20 participants, compared with 150 out of 250.
The formats also differ in timing: the badminton tournament was a one-off event, the climbing event took place at night, and the fitness classes were held weekly. These differences help illustrate the events as specific examples of sport in Maszewo Duże, each organised in a different way.
A Church as a Place of Remembrance
The Church of Saint Hedwig, Queen of Poland, was built on the site of a temporary barrack. Residents of Maszewo had built the barrack in just a few days to protest against the introduction of martial law in Poland. The church commemorates this protest. For travellers interested in local places of remembrance and recent Polish history, it offers a tangible historical connection.
On Foot and by Bike
A walking and cycling path runs alongside Provincial Road 559 in Maszewo Duże. A completed walking and cycling path continues from the border between Maszewo Duże and Mańkowo towards Nowa Biała. For a specific route, it is advisable to check the route and its condition.
Choose the Right Focus for Your Stay
When looking for holiday accommodation in Maszewo Duże, you can weigh up the purpose of your trip: a fixed event date requires planning around the date, while the paths or the protest history offer different points of focus.
