Złotokłos: History and Hiking
Accommodation in Złotokłos
Złotokłos offers two distinctive starting points for planning a trip: its history as a holiday settlement and a green hiking trail that begins here and leads into the Chojnów Forests. The wider Piaseczyński destination offers additional nature and cultural attractions. You can therefore shape your search for a holiday apartment around whether you want to focus on the town itself, a longer hike or a broader range of excursions.
A holiday settlement with a history of its own
In 1924, Jan Orsetti began developing the Letnisko Złotokłos holiday settlement, which covered more than 105 hectares. The following year, a further 79 hectares were designated as Letnisko Złotokłos A; the plots there were each 3,600 square metres. These two stages of development give the town’s history a clear timeframe and setting: work on the holiday settlement began in 1924 and was expanded in 1925 with a separately designated section.
The Church of Our Lady of Grace also tells the story of the town’s development. It was built of stone in its present form between 1935 and 1937, has a single nave and three altars. Another historical site lies immediately next door: the First World War soldiers’ cemetery is within the Sołectwo Runów area, in the Runów Forest, and borders Złotokłos. Residents therefore often consider it part of Złotokłos. The cemetery was restored in 2016.
Hiking from Złotokłos and around Piaseczyński
The main green hiking trail through the Chojnów Forests begins in Złotokłos and runs via Szczaki and other places to Konstancin-Jeziorna. It is 34 kilometres long in total. Check the current trail markers before setting out. When planning, you can treat its length and route as a dedicated hiking trip rather than viewing it as just a short walk around town.
The Chojnowski Landscape Park in the wider Piaseczyński destination has seven marked hiking trails, as well as a network of educational trails for walkers and cyclists. Another route, of a different length, is the 28-kilometre Szlak Południkowy through the Chojnowskie Forests. It runs from Piaseczno railway station via Zalesie Dolne, Górki Szymona, Zimne Doły, Zalesie Górne, the Łoś Nature Reserve and Nowy Prażmów to Prażmów. The difference is useful when choosing a trip: the 34-kilometre trail begins in Złotokłos, while the Szlak Południkowy starts at Piaseczno railway station.
A shorter route is the 10-kilometre Chojnowski szlak zabytków przyrody. It passes through the Chojnów, Pilawski Grąd and Uroczysko Stephana nature reserves. When visiting the eleven nature reserves in Chojnowski Landscape Park, you must use existing paths and marked hiking trails only. This lets you take both the stated route length and permitted paths into account when planning a hike.
Culture and landscape in the wider Piaseczyński destination
The wider Piaseczyński destination includes a medieval Gothic castle in Czersk. Duke Janusz the Elder had it built around the turn of the 14th and 15th centuries on the site of an earlier fortification. At the eastern foot of the castle lies Jezioro Czerskie, a former oxbow lake of the Vistula that is fully protected as a natural monument. Here, the history of the building and the former river landscape offer two distinct points of interest.
Park Zdrojowy offers a different focus in the centre of Konstancin-Jeziorna’s spa district. Its main avenue connects Piłsudskiego Street with the graduation tower. The park has three playgrounds for children and young people, a volleyball court and an outdoor fitness station. The Konstancin graduation tower opened on 21 July 1978; as the brine evaporates, it creates a microclimate in the surrounding area similar to that of the seaside.
