Legionowo can be explored through a variety of themes: exhibitions tell the story of the town and the region, while parks and themed trails offer different perspectives. This lets you include culture and activity in your travel plans and decide which experiences you want to focus on during your stay. Looking at the wider Legionowski destination also broadens the choice to include landscape and regional themes.

Exhibitions on history and archaeology

At the museum pavilion at 23 A. Mickiewicza Street, the permanent exhibition “Dzieje Legionowa 1877–1990” features a total of 363 historical objects. The date range in the title alone spans a broad period: the exhibition presents the history of Legionowo through a wide variety of tangible objects. For anyone who enjoys learning about a place’s historical background while travelling, it is a distinctive cultural highlight.

Another permanent exhibition, “De Profundis… Archeologia ziem powiatu legionowskiego”, focuses on finds from the Muzeum Historyczne w Legionowie’s own excavations. Its scope thus extends beyond local history to the archaeology of Legionowski County. The two exhibitions have different focuses: historical objects that trace Legionowo’s development, and archaeological finds from the museum’s excavations.

A building’s former use also forms part of Legionowo’s local history. The “Piaski” branch of the Muzeum Historyczne w Legionowie is located in the former officers’ casino. Its two exhibition rooms explore the history of the Legionowo garrison. Together with the permanent exhibitions, they offer a varied picture of local history, archaeological finds and military history.

Parks and trails in Legionowo

A free brine graduation tower has stood in Park Zdrowia since June 2015. It is the first of its kind and the second in Masovia. The park also has shaded benches, paths among the trees and an outdoor gym. These different features make the space suitable for a range of uses: you can plan a break in the greenery or combine a visit to the park with exercise, without being limited to just one activity.

For those who would like to explore several green spaces, the “Legionowskie Parki” cycling route connects all the parks in Legionowo. The “Polski Walczącej” patriotic tourist trail has a different focus: it comprises three sections and passes 28 memorial sites. The two routes therefore appeal to different interests—the cycling route links parks, while the tourist trail focuses on memorial sites.

The wider Legionowski destination

The wider Legionowski destination includes Legionowski County, which lies in the Warsaw Basin, in the central part of the Masovian Lowland and mostly in the area between the Vistula and Narew rivers. This geographic context broadens the scope of travel planning without conflating the region’s landscapes with its individual towns. A significant part of the county belongs to the Warszawski Obszar Chronionego Krajobrazu, a protected landscape area.

The nature reserves each offer their own distinctive features. Wąwóz Szaniawskiego protects natural forests on the steep banks of the Narew. Wieliszewskie Łęgi Nature Reserve was established to preserve diverse natural plant communities with numerous orchid species. Visitors interested in protected nature will find different highlights in Legionowski: woodland on a steep riverbank on the one hand, and diverse, orchid-rich plant communities on the other.

Jezioro Zegrzyńskie is a reservoir created in 1963 when the lower Narew was dammed at Dębe. It is used for sailing, and sailing schools have been operating there for many years. This offers a different focus when choosing the kind of trip you want: the wider destination also adds water-based activities to the exhibitions and trails in Legionowo. The Szlak Polski Walczącej offers almost 150 kilometres of walking and cycling opportunities. Together, these regional themes provide a varied backdrop for planning a holiday, while Legionowo’s exhibitions, parks and trails offer a more specific sense of place.
