The county has more than 300 kilometres of hiking trails through areas of particular natural and historical interest. It includes a picnic clearing with an educational shelter, benches, tables, a designated campfire site and information boards. The individual stops and places to rest give the trail its own character; plan to enjoy it as a nature and learning experience.
At Park Królewski, the “Edukacja środowiskowa – ścieżka edukacyjna w Parku Królewskim” trail uses examples found right in the park to share information about local flora, fauna and fungi. Picnic tables, benches, information boards and educational games are also part of the trail. Wooden walkways make it possible to observe features and organisms in aquatic habitats. If you would like to discover nature not only while hiking but also by exploring its habitats, this offers a different thematic approach.
Water is also the focus at Kozienice Lake, where you’ll find a supervised bathing area, a lakeside beach and a watersports equipment rental. In summer, the lake is a place to relax. Organised kayak trips are also offered on the Radomka, Pilica and Vistula rivers in the county. You can choose between a day at the lake, a hike and an organised river trip, without planning these different experiences as one combined route.
Culture and History in Kozienice
The palace and park complex in Kozienice comprises a group of buildings on the site of an 18th-century residence, the Den family cemetery, a tower and an English-style park. After the First Partition of Poland, the royal residence served Stanisław August Poniatowski as a place of relaxation and a hunting lodge. Part of the Muzeum Regionalne im. prof. Tomasza Mikockiego is now housed in the former complex of coach house, stables and kitchen wing.
Another prominent reminder of the town’s history is the Kolumna Zygmunta I. Starego. It commemorates the birth of the future Polish king, was erected in 1518 and is considered Poland’s oldest secular monument. Those interested in Jewish heritage can also visit the Kirkut, the Jewish cemetery in Kozienice: it has been listed as a historic monument since 3 April 1989 under number MWKZ 403/A/89. The first record of this monument dates from the middle of 1790.
In the centre of Kozienice, the Church of the Holy Cross stands at the town’s most important road junction. The PKS bus station is on Kochanowskiego Street.
