Podgórz: Walking Trails, Vineyard and the Vistula Valley

Podgórz combines striking landforms with trails that offer different ways to explore: an easy educational trail runs through Skarpa Dobrska, while a 51-kilometre cycle route ends here. Hiking and trails around Podgórz

The easy, 6.5-kilometre “Dobre-Podgórz” educational trail runs from Dobre through Skarpa Dobrska to Podgórz and back to Dobre. Along the route, it takes you through the Skarpa Dobrska Protected Landscape Area, with its carbonate rocks, loess, ravine formations and suffosion. It is rated easy; the route length also gives you a specific guide for planning your day.

In Podgórz, the educational trail meets the blue tourist trail from Annopol to Dęblin. Another trail, the blue-marked Szlak Nadwiślański, also runs through Podgórz and continues via Kazimierz Dolny, Bochotnica, Puławy, Gołąb and Dęblin. For cyclists, the 51-kilometre “Dolina Chodelki” route is another option: it ends in Podgórz, at the Chapel of Saints John and Paul on a county road. Chapels, vineyard and history

One chapel in Podgórz is dedicated to Saints Peter and Paul and dates from 1953. Winnica Pańska Góra was founded in 2001 by Wojciech Włodarczyk; Pańska Góra is also the historical name of a hill. The hillfort rampart also gives a clear sense of the location: it stands on a distinctive landform on Skarpa Dobrska, overlooking the Vistula Valley. In good weather, the Góry Świętokrzyskie can also be seen from the summit of Winnica Pańska Góra. The two viewpoints offer different vistas; the distant view from Pańska Góra is explicitly dependent on good weather.

Nature and unusual sites

Krowia Wyspa lies near Podgórz. It is a faunal reserve, primarily focused on birds, that protects the breeding sites of numerous bird species. The island is also part of the area’s history of land use: residents of nearby Podgórz used it as pasture for cows, horses and sheep. This brings together the natural landscape and the long-standing relationship between the island and the village.

At Kamieniołom w Podgórzu, imprints of marine animals, including sponges and shells, can be seen. The quarry is on private land in the yard of a working farm. Check in advance whether a visit is possible rather than planning it as a site that is freely accessible.
