Architecture and history in Lubartów
The Basilica of St Anne was built between 1733 and 1738 to a design by Paweł Antoni Fontana. The Church of St Lawrence in the Capuchin monastery complex was also designed by Fontana; it is decorated with 18th-century paintings by Szymon Czechowicz. The architecture and paintings offer different perspectives on sacred art.
Part of the historic buildings dating from the 16th to the 19th century has been preserved around the Rynek. Kościuszki Street is home to two brick manor houses from the first half of the 19th century. Together, these buildings reveal traces of different periods, rather than limiting the town’s surviving houses to a single chapter of its history.
The Pałac Sanguszków also bears Fontana’s mark: the palace was remodelled as a Baroque palace to the architect’s design. Paweł Antoni Fontana links the basilica and the church in the monastery complex as their architect; the palace’s conversion into a Baroque palace was also carried out to his design. Those interested in architecture can therefore keep several different aspects in mind as they explore the town.
Regional culture and cycling routes
The Muzeum Ziemi Lubartowskiej houses more than 2,500 exhibits on the history and culture of the region. Its collection covers fields such as ethnography, history, numismatics and archaeology. These varied subjects offer a different way to explore the region through its buildings: you can get to know Lubartów not only through its architecture, but also through a range of cultural and historical collections.
For getting around on two wheels, Lubartów has more than 11 kilometres of cycling routes. They make it possible to travel from one end of the town to the other.
