Gold and City History
The Muzeum Złota is housed in a listed building dating from the second half of the 17th century, incorporated into Złotoryja’s fortification walls. The “Górnictwo złota” exhibition is devoted to the history of gold mining and gold extraction in Złotoryja and the surrounding area. On display are mining tools and gold pans, as well as various forms of gold and gold-like minerals, including “fool’s gold.” The exhibition therefore focuses both on the work involved in mining and on the different forms gold can take.
The old town also offers a chance to explore the city’s development: restored historic townhouses and the preserved medieval town plan shape its character. The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary features Romanesque, Gothic, and Baroque architectural elements; inside is a mysterious well. During the 2026 tourist season, the tower of this church was open Thursday through Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. These seasonal hours refer to 2026 and therefore provide a specific point of reference for planning a visit at that time.

The Strefa Odkrywania, Wyobraźni i Aktywności (SOWA) is a local science center based on independent exploration, discovery, and experimentation. The walk and the quest have different emphases: one focuses on the route through the green spaces, while the other centers on solving puzzles and the city’s history.
Święto Złota is one of the recurring events in Złotoryja. It brings the local community together and promotes its cultural heritage. National Road No. 3, part of European route E65, connects Złotoryja with Wrocław, Jelenia Góra, and border crossings.
