The character of the village is shaped by historic buildings and sites from different periods: a branch church with furnishings from several centuries, a medieval castle site and traces of former manor farms. A branch church with artworks from several centuries
The branch church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel was built at the beginning of the 16th century and is listed in the register of historic monuments. Inside are a late Gothic stone baptismal font from the 16th century and a Baroque altar from the 18th century. The altar is made of wood and is polychrome, meaning it is decorated in several colors. The furnishings also include an organ built in 1874 by the Świdnica company “Schlag und Söhne”.
The furnishings bring together several art-historical periods in one building: the baptismal font dates from the 16th century, the altar from the 18th century and the organ from the second half of the 19th century. The church stands on a hill east of the center of Zebrzydów. If you include it in your travel plans, take its location into account when choosing your holiday apartment.
Castle site and traces of former manor farms
The medieval castle site in Zebrzydów is also listed in the register of historic monuments. The remains of the lower manor farm are thought to have been the seat of the lords of Seifferdau, built by the end of the 14th century at the latest. The lower manor farm survives as a low, rectangular earthen mound. Remains of a ditch and an outer rampart surround it. This visible form differs from that of a surviving building: the focus here is on the earthwork and traces of the former fortifications.
The manor house in Zebrzydów was built around 1860 and remodeled at the beginning of the 20th century. Another historical connection survives at the upper manor farm: it is a remnant of a former village head’s farm with an outlying farmstead. Its “knightly” seat features included a ditch and a tower on a hill.
Further historic details are found across several buildings. The cemetery chapel dates from around 1800; the cemetery wall contains two penitential crosses. The school is a brick building from the early 20th century, with single- and two-story sections. It stands in an extensive park surrounded by a fence from the same period.
Village location and circular route
A natural monument is another of the village’s notable features: a small-leaved lime tree by the millstream is designated a natural monument.
Route 5 is a 23 km circular route from Marcinowice via Zebrzydów, Kątki, Wirki, Wiry and Tapadła, returning to Marcinowice. Zebrzydów is therefore on a loop that starts and ends in Marcinowice.
