Town routes and a hiking trail
The Miejska Trasa Turystyczna runs through Bystrzyca Kłodzka and is signposted. Anyone wishing to include a named route through the town in their travel plans will find a clear guide here. This is distinct from the Miejska Trasa Spacerowa: it runs along the historic town walls from ul. Międzyleśna to ul. Podmiejska. Its endpoints are thus identified by two streets, while the walls are the focus of the walk. Depending on whether you prefer a tourist route through the town or a path along the fortifications, you can shape your excursion differently.
Another option is a section of the yellow hiking trail. It is 1.5 km long and leads from the town centre to the Chapel of St Florian. In addition to the two town routes, this offers a hiking trail with a specified length and a particular destination. The routes differ in their stated focus: the Miejska Trasa Turystyczna runs through the town, the Miejska Trasa Spacerowa follows the walls, and the yellow trail section leads to the chapel.
The Podziemna Trasa Turystyczna is also part of the town’s history. It was intended to preserve for posterity part of the original and distinctive underground mining galleries of the historic old town. In 2002, a 350 m² section was opened to the public. This year and area refer to this section of the underground route and give it its own historical context.
Fortifications and townscape
The historic centre of Bystrzyca Kłodzka has historical and cultural value as a testament to the history of the Kłodzko Land, civilizational development, and urban planning. Baszta Kłodzka is an element of the town’s fortifications dating from the early 14th century and has a viewing platform. Brama Wodna, a stone fortification, also dates from the early 14th century. The two structures represent different elements of the fortifications: a tower with a viewing platform on the one hand, and a stone gate structure on the other.
A Gothic church with a distinctive architectural history
The Church of St Michael the Archangel has existed since the 13th century. It is a rare Gothic example of a two-aisled hall church. Its tower is integrated into the town’s fortifications, thus linking church architecture with the town’s defences. Inside are a 15th-century statue of the Madonna and Child and a stone baptismal font from 1577. Those interested in architectural forms and historic furnishings will find several specific points of interest here: the distinctive two-aisled layout, the integration of the tower, and two works of art or furnishings, each with its own date.
The Muzeum Filumenistyczne
The Muzeum Filumenistyczne is housed in a former Protestant church and a former parish school. The complex of the former Protestant church and school was designed by Karl Friedrich Schinkel. In 1964, the former Protestant church and the school were remodelled inside, connected to one another, and adapted for exhibition purposes. The museum is the only institution in Poland devoted to the history of making fire. Here, architectural history meets an unusual cultural-historical subject. The museum may be of particular interest when planning your trip if, alongside the town routes and fortifications, you would also like to explore a specific history beyond the usual topics relating to buildings.
When looking for a holiday apartment in Bystrzyca Kłodzka, you can take your own interests into account: signposted routes, the historic walls, town fortifications, or the cultural history of the place. This allows you to choose your destination according to which of these aspects you would like to get to know better during your stay.
